2012 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, Freedom High School, located in Loudoun County, celebrates seven years of serving the communities of South Riding, Chantilly, Centreville, and Aldie in 2012; and
WHEREAS, Freedom High School opened its doors on August 29, 2005, welcoming students from Broad Run High School and Mercer Middle School; the school also hosts Dulles Community Church at its facility; and
WHEREAS, Freedom High School freshmen split their time between the main campus and the annex at Mercer Middle School; and
WHEREAS, Freedom High School, under the leadership of principal Christine Forester, teaches students trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship to fulfill its mission of providing a safe, diverse, and challenging educational environment to prepare students for their role in an ever-changing global society; and
WHEREAS, in just a few short years, Freedom High School has established itself as an athletic powerhouse, with the girls’ basketball team becoming the first Loudoun County team to win consecutive state basketball titles; and
WHEREAS, in 2011 the Freedom High School girls’ volleyball team won the district regular season, tournament, and regional championships, while in 2012, the wrestling team won the regular season championship, and the gymnastics team captured regular season, tournament, and regional championships; and
WHEREAS, Freedom High School has an arts program that has expanded in popularity and talent, with the drama department earning recognition at the Folger Shakespeare Festival in 2011 and performing throughout the state and at Walt Disney World in 2012; and
WHEREAS, Freedom High School also sports a marching band that has developed a successful winter drumline and color guard and more than 40 clubs and societies to enrich the student population; and
WHEREAS, on April 21, 2012, Freedom High School will hold its first annual Freedom 5K along with a One Mile Fun Run and Tot Trot focused on “Breaking Free from Bullying”; and
WHEREAS, as it marks its seventh anniversary, Freedom High School looks forward to continuing to provide a positive learning environment in which all students can excel; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Freedom High School hereby be commended on the occasion of its seventh anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Christine Forester, principal of Freedom High School, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for the school’s commitment to its students.
