12200117DWHEREAS, Rolling Ridge Elementary School, which serves the families of Sterling in Loudoun County, has implemented local and humanitarian initiatives to serve those in need; and
WHEREAS, Rolling Ridge Elementary School, which opened in 1975 and has served the area for 37 years, believes that the mission of educators is to serve students and ensure that they meet with success; and
WHEREAS, Rolling Ridge Elementary School’s theme of “Inspiring to Believe,” reflects the school’s commitment to nurturing students’ belief in themselves and others and in the school and nation, finding that when students believe, they can accomplish just about anything; and
WHEREAS, Rolling Ridge Elementary School organized a change drive to raise money for relief in Haiti, which helped students learn about the plight of less fortunate individuals in other parts of the world and provided much needed assistance to earthquake victims in Haiti; and
WHEREAS, Rolling Ridge Elementary School was also one of seven Loudoun County Schools that participated in the “Pennies for Patients” campaign in which coins were collected to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; and
WHEREAS, the seven Loudoun County schools raised $7,676 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, with Rolling Ridge Elementary School having the largest contribution with $1,889; and
WHEREAS, Rolling Ridge Elementary School hosted an international night to educate students about different cultures from around the world with parents manning tables filled with information and treats from their countries, students sampling various international foods, and the Latin Dance team from Dominion High School performing different Latin dances; and
WHEREAS, Rolling Ridge Elementary school participates in the Title 1 program, Improving Basic Programs, a federally funded program that provides supplemental instruction to improve academic achievement for identified students in kindergarten through fifth grade in targeted schools to assist the students in becoming proficient readers; and
WHEREAS, Rolling Ridge Elementary School also offers a variety of different clubs and activities for the enrichment of students and to make learning fun, such as Puzzlemania, Lego Club, Roadrunners Read Club, Math Club, Drama Club, Board Game Club, Drop in Jump Rope Club, Chess Club, Homework Heroes Club, Cheerleading Club, and Computer Club; and
WHEREAS, Rolling Ridge Elementary School takes great pride in reaching out to help those in need, while providing a superior education to its students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Rolling Ridge Elementary School hereby be commended on its humanitarian initiatives; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Andrew Davis, principal of Rolling Ridge Elementary School, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the school’s commitment to its students and the community.
