WHEREAS, Dominion High School, which opened its doors to receive students from Potomac Falls High School and Park View High School in 2003, will celebrate its 10th anniversary of serving the families of the Sugarland Run and Lowes Island communities of Sterling in 2013; and

WHEREAS, Dominion High School, under the leadership of principal John Brewer, strives to mold students who will accept the challenge of leadership for today and tomorrow; display courtesy, character, and integrity in all situations; respect the rights of every member of their diverse community; serve the community as a responsible citizen and positive role model; and work hard to achieve academic excellence; and

WHEREAS, from April 15 to April 25, Dominion High School will host an international youth summit, organized by the Dominion Global Ambassadors Club, with students from six highly esteemed high schools from around the world; the participating countries include China, Germany, Lebanon, Singapore, South Africa, and South Korea; and

WHEREAS, the Global Ambassadors have chosen the theme of “extending hands, expanding minds” for the summit with the goals of reaching out to the young leaders around the world in friendship, collectively extending a hand to those in need throughout the world, and expanding global perspectives on important issues facing the world; and

WHEREAS, summit participants will take part in lessons with Dominion High School students that explore such global issues as human rights, individual freedoms, conflict resolution, education, and environmental protection; and

WHEREAS, Dominion High School students will also share their culture with the international students through homestays and summit activities organized by various clubs; and

WHEREAS, Dominion High School students and summit participants will make visits to key landmarks and institutions in Washington, D.C., including the United States Capitol, the White House, and the United States Institute of Peace, in order to further explore their roles as global citizens; and

WHEREAS, on May 12, 2012, Dominion High School will also demonstrate its leadership in the community with its Sixth Annual Titan T-Market, a schoolwide yard sale that brings together the student population and local community; and

WHEREAS, Dominion High School’s outstanding administration, dedicated teachers, and supportive staff and community members look forward to continuing to teach the leaders of today and tomorrow; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Dominion High School hereby be commended on the occasion of its 10th anniversary in 2013; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Brewer, principal of Dominion High School, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for the school’s commitment to its students.
