2012 SPECIAL SESSION I
12200128DWHEREAS, Gateway Community Church in Loudoun County, under the leadership of Pastor Ed Allen, proudly celebrates its 15th anniversary as a congregation in 2012; and
WHEREAS, in 1997 Gateway Community Church began holding Sunday service at Floris Elementary School in Herndon with home fellowship groups meeting in different homes; and
WHEREAS, the following year, Gateway Community Church celebrated its grand opening on Easter Sunday; later that year, the church began to meet at Rachel Carson Middle School in Herndon; and
WHEREAS, Gateway Community Church continued to grow in faith and members over the years, eventually relocating to Mercer Middle School in the Stone Ridge community of Aldie in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Gateway Community Church focuses on helping its members build balanced spiritual lives by growing up towards God in worship, in towards others in community, and out towards the world in specific acts of service; and
WHEREAS, Gateway Community Church members continue to meet in home fellowship groups throughout the area, where they build relationships, encourage one another, and learn and pray together; and
WHEREAS, Gateway Community Church offers a midweek program for fifth and sixth graders called Breakout designed to help them grow spiritually, while another midweek program for middle schoolers called Crash is a high-octane time of fun and learning; and
WHEREAS, Gateway Community Church also holds weekly small group meetings for high school youth to encourage them in their endeavors; and
WHEREAS, as Gateway Community Church celebrates its 15th anniversary, it looks forward to continuing to fulfill its mission of helping members build balanced, spiritual lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Gateway Community Church hereby be commended on the occasion of its 15th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ed Allen, pastor of Gateway Community Church, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and appreciation for the church’s commitment to serving its members and the community.
