2012 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, students at Guilford Elementary School, located in Sterling, have been enriched through their participation in the school’s Facilitating Understanding Through Using Real-Life Applications program; and
WHEREAS, the Facilitating Understanding Through Using Real-Life Applications (FUTURA) program at Guilford Elementary School is a center-based enrichment program; and
WHEREAS, students at Guilford Elementary School travel to the designated center one day a week to participate in the FUTURA program, which has a variety of activities designed to encourage ingenuity, originality, insight, precise and clear communication, problem solving, analytical thinking, and technological proficiency; and
WHEREAS, students at Guilford Elementary School also gain technological proficiency as computer activities are integrated into the curriculum in language arts, math, science, social studies, and other disciplines; and
WHEREAS, Guilford Elementary School, under the leadership of principal David Stewart, also received a 2008 Governor’s Gold Award for Nutrition and Physical Activity; and
WHEREAS, Guilford Elementary School takes great pride in incorporating those activities and programs that will best serve its culturally diverse student population and prepare students for further education; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Guilford Elementary School hereby be commended for its Facilitating Understanding Through Using Real-Life Applications program; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to David Stewart, principal of Guilford Elementary School, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ appreciation for the school’s commitment to preparing students for their futures.
