12200050DWHEREAS, the Rotary Club of Sterling will celebrate its 25th anniversary as a chartered Rotary Club within the Rotary Foundation; and
WHEREAS, the Rotary Foundation exists to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty; and
WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of Sterling was established in 1988 with Dr. Teryl White as the club’s founding president; and
WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of Sterling helps raise funds to aid Rotary International’s Polio Plus program, which provides an army of volunteers to promote and assist at national immunization days in polio-endemic countries around the world and works to eradicate the tenacious disease; and
WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of Sterling sponsors numerous community activities and scholarships, including area high school scholarships, the Seneca Ridge Middle School D.R.E.A.M. program, and the Annual Community Golf Scholarship Tournament; and
WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of Sterling also supports such organizations as the Loudoun County Senior Center at Cascades, the Good Shepherd Alliance, the Loudoun Abused Women Shelter, and the local Salvation Army; and
WHEREAS, the Rotary Club of Sterling reaches out to those around the world through generous contributions to the Clean Water Project in the Dominican Republic and through its Camp Eggars Project, which sends needed personal items to United States troops in Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, a vital part of the community, the Rotary Club of Sterling has provided outstanding community service and support of local and international humanitarian initiatives throughout its existence; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Rotary Club of Sterling hereby be commended on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Rotary Club of Sterling as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and appreciation for the club’s commitment to the community.
