2012 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, for 40 years, Fred Holland has faithfully served the residents of New Church in Accomack County as a volunteer with the New Church Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company; and
WHEREAS, the New Church Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, the northernmost fire district company in Accomack County, responds to a variety of calls and relies heavily upon the willingness of its volunteers to respond at all times of the day and night; and
WHEREAS, Fred Holland has devoted countless hours over the years to ensure the safety and well-being of his neighbors and fellow firefighters, battling fires, providing public safety information, and staying abreast of the latest changes in technology and equipment; and
WHEREAS, Fred Holland has served as president of the New Church Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company for 20 years, providing strong and consistent leadership that has helped shape the growth and development of the company and enabled it to provide area residents with the best in first responder services; and
WHEREAS, Fred Holland helped create the New Church Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company’s largest fundraiser, an Independence Day celebration held annually the Sunday before the 4th of July, which provides much needed funds for the company; and
WHEREAS, a respected leader, Fred Holland serves as a mentor for younger firefighters and provides wise guidance and insight based on his decades of experience; and
WHEREAS, countless individuals have reaped the benefits of Fred Holland’s work over the decades, while his loyalty and commitment to the New Church Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company and to the community have inspired his fellow first responders; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Fred Holland hereby be commended on the occasion of his 40th anniversary of service to the New Church Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Fred Holland as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and appreciation for his commitment to serving the community.
