2012 SPECIAL SESSION I
12200022DWHEREAS, the Portsmouth Christian School cheerleading squad took first-place honors in the nonmusic and music categories at the Christian Cheerleaders of America National Competition held March 1 - 3, 2012, in North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, the Portsmouth Christian School cheerleading squad, a tight-knit group of 21 junior varsity and varsity team members, devoted considerable time and energy to preparing themselves for competition, practicing two hours every day during the May to March season; and
WHEREAS, the Portsmouth Christian School cheerleading squad competed in two categories—nonmusic and music, both of which require jumps, tumbling, cheers, pyramids, partner stunts, tosses, crowd appeal, and transition; and
WHEREAS, in the nonmusic category, the girls cheer as they do during a football or basketball game, while the music category required a portion of the routine to include a choreographed dance; and
WHEREAS, the Portsmouth Christian School cheerleading squad competed against four teams in the nonmusic category and against seven teams in the music category, capturing titles in both categories after outstanding performances; and
WHEREAS, the Christian Cheerleaders of America recognized senior Samantha Meacham as the National Scholar of the Year for having the highest grade point average, a 4.0, of all the competitors; and
WHEREAS, the outstanding performance of the Portsmouth Christian School cheerleading squad is a tribute to the dedication, talent, and exuberant spirit of the cheerleaders, guidance of head coach Keely Doughtie, and support of the school’s students, parents, faculty, and staff; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Portsmouth Christian School cheerleading squad hereby be commended on its first-place honors in the nonmusic and music categories at the 2012 Christian Cheerleaders of America National Competition; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Keely Doughtie, the coach of the Portsmouth Christian School cheerleading squad, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and appreciation for the team’s triumphant performance.
