2012 SPECIAL SESSION I
12200031DWHEREAS, Dorothy Hall Fowler Sheffey, a Pulaski County businesswoman who made many contributions to Southwest Virginia through her involvement in civic and community affairs, died on January 9, 2012; and
WHEREAS, a hardworking business leader, Dorothy “Dot” Sheffey served as a manager of retail clothing operations in the New River Valley, gaining valuable and practical business and managerial experience that would be of benefit in her many community endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Dot Sheffey provided valuable guidance and insight as a board member of the Red Cross, member of the Advisory Committee on Vocational Education at Radford University and Advisory Committee for Marketing Curriculum at New River Community College; and
WHEREAS, committed to the well-being and vitality of Pulaski County residents, Dot Sheffey volunteered with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, parent-teacher association, band boosters, the American Cancer Society, and Fairlawn Volunteer Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, a longtime member of the Pulaski County Republican Women, Dot Sheffey served as a member of the Ninth District Republican Committee, as Ninth District Representative, and in other capacities with the Virginia Federation of Republican Women; and
WHEREAS, Dot Sheffey worked for numerous campaigns for local, state, and national candidates, beginning with the Eisenhower campaign, and served as a longtime election official; and
WHEREAS, Dot Sheffey earned many awards and accolades over the years for her community service, including the Gerry J. Atkinson Community Service Award and recognition as the Pulaski County Woman of the Year; and
WHEREAS, a valuable part of the Pulaski County community, Dot Sheffey leaves many loving family members, friends, and fellow community supporters, who will fondly remember her life and legacy and greatly miss her; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of Pulaski County and the Commonwealth, Dorothy Hall Fowler Sheffey; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dorothy Hall Fowler Sheffey as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
