WHEREAS, Peter K. Mueller, one of the Commonwealth’s top manufacturing leaders, has announced his retirement as executive vice president of STIHL Incorporated in 2012; and
WHEREAS, Peter Mueller, who earned his engineering degree from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, served as assistant to the chairman of the board of a major German corporation before joining STIHL Incorporated in 1974; and
WHEREAS, Peter Mueller became the director of manufacturing at STIHL Incorporated in 1976, was promoted to vice president of manufacturing in 1978, and also became a member of the executive council; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Peter Mueller, STIHL Incorporated’s Virginia Beach operations have grown to become the STIHL group’s largest manufacturing location with over 2,100 employees and one of the largest manufacturing operations in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, during Peter Mueller’s tenure, STIHL Incorporated has achieved ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications and received the United States Senate Productivity and Quality Medallion of Excellence Award in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Peter Mueller led STIHL Incorporated as it became a stage two finalist for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and won Virginia’s Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing; and
WHEREAS, Peter Mueller serves on the board of directors for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and is a member of the Society of Plastics Industry, the Society of Plastics Engineers, and the Virginia Manufacturing Association; and
WHEREAS, Peter Mueller is a board member of the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance and also serves on the board of governors of the Virginia Opera; and
WHEREAS, Peter Mueller was named Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany by then German President Horst Koehler in September 2005; and
WHEREAS, Peter Mueller is involved in the diplomatic, political, and economic aspects of Germany’s representation in the United States and assists German citizens in Hampton Roads; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Peter K. Mueller for his exemplary service as executive vice president of STIHL Incorporated; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Peter K. Mueller as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for his commitment to American manufacturing and best wishes in his future endeavors.
