Commending Clayton T. Lester.

WHEREAS, Clayton T. Lester has faithfully served Danville area residents for 50 years as a member of the Danville Life Saving Crew; and

WHEREAS, a member of the Danville Life Saving Crew since 1962, Clayton Lester helped the organization grow from a mainly first responder service to a provider of advanced life support care and rescue operations to area residents today; and

WHEREAS, Clayton Lester’s background in business proved to be an asset to the Danville Life Saving Crew as he served as assistant business manager and business manager, providing keen insight as how to best manage the organization’s financial matters; and

WHEREAS, during Clayton Lester’s tenure as business manager, the Danville Life Saving Crew laid the foundation for enhanced service and financial stability through the installation of a helipad for patient transfers and the purchase of first-class vehicles and equipment in addition to a memorial donation program to help support operations; and

WHEREAS, Clayton Lester has provided outstanding leadership to the Danville Life Saving Crew, serving as captain from 1976 to 1978, as a member of the board of directors for nearly four decades, and as an alternate member of the board of governors; and

WHEREAS, a leader on the state level as well, Clayton Lester served in several capacities with the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads, Inc., including as president from 1978 to 1979, and was honored for his longtime service with induction into its hall of fame; and

WHEREAS, Clayton Lester has also received the Raymond McNeely Lifetime Achievement Award and was recognized for his distinguished service with induction into the Julian Stanley Wise Hall of Fame and with a proclamation and the designation of the original crew hall as “The C.T. Lester Crew Hall”; and

WHEREAS, a vital member of the Danville community, Clayton Lester has been instrumental in the growth and development of the Danville Life Saving Crew, while countless residents have reaped the benefits of his half century of service to the organization; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Clayton T. Lester on the occasion of his 50th anniversary of service to the Danville Life Saving Crew; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Clayton T. Lester as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and appreciation for his extraordinary commitment to serving the community.
