2012 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, the 2011 - 2012 Lancaster High School boys’ basketball team captured the Virginia High School League Group A, Division 2 championship by defeating George Mason High School 66 - 51; and
WHEREAS, the Lancaster High School boys’ basketball team enjoyed a winning regular season and won the Northern Neck District regular season championship and the district tournament trophy to advance to the Region A tournament championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lancaster High School Red Devils defeated Dan River High School and Virginia High School in the state quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, before entering the state championship final; and
WHEREAS, more than a thousand Lancaster High School boys’ basketball team fans traveled to Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center to watch the team play on March 10, 2012; and
WHEREAS, the Lancaster High School Red Devils did not disappoint, opening the game with a seven-point run and ending the first half with a 33 - 23 lead; and
WHEREAS, the George Mason High School Mustangs had several rallies in the second half, but the Lancaster High School Red Devils prevailed to take home the school’s first state championship in boys’ basketball; and
WHEREAS, the entire team—Michael Coleman, Tyler Colding, Brian Moody, Keith Craft, Kedrick Lee, Dalton Moore, Aaron Manning, James Walters, Jovante Davis, Melvin Gregory, Ricky Gibson, Brandon Morris, Keondra Owens, Taj Smith, and Jovante Smith—worked hard and contributed throughout the season; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Tim Rice provided outstanding leadership with the assistance of his staff of Bill Young, Wayne Carter, Mac Carter, and managers Mark Saunders, Travis Boyd, and Clarence Thomas; and
WHEREAS, the Lancaster High School boys’ basketball team enjoyed the support of parents, teachers, administration, staff, and community throughout the season; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Lancaster High School boys’ basketball team on winning the Virginia High School League Group A, Division 2 championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tim Rice, head coach of the Lancaster High School boys’ basketball team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and appreciation for the team’s outstanding season and championship performance.
