SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3
Commending Patricia J. Lung.

WHEREAS, Patricia J. Lung retired from the Senate Clerk’s Office on July 1, 2011, after 21 years of exemplary service to the Senate and the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Patricia “Patty” Lung joined the Senate Clerk’s Office in 1990 as a senior office administrator; her initial responsibilities included preparing the daily session calendar and fielding numerous inquiries and direct requests from the public before the advent of the Internet and the legislative information system; and

WHEREAS, Patty Lung’s superior organizational skills and attention to detail were evident from the first day she started and over time she drew upon these skills in streamlining the interim appointment process, coordinating the Model General Assembly program, and overseeing the automation of the calendar system; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Patty Lung became a valuable resource as the committee clerk to the Senate Committee on Privileges and Elections and the Senate Committee on Education and Health and later as the backup committee clerk to the Senate Committee on Rules, whose members appreciated her wealth of knowledge and experience; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, Patty Lung was promoted to senior office coordinator of committee operations, where she continued to exercise a positive influence on session staff who, under her gentle and steady guidance, learned the intricacies of the committee system—the backbone of the legislative process; and

WHEREAS, Patty Lung’s unparalleled commitment and willingness to step up as a team player won her respect and appreciation from her colleagues on many occasions; and

WHEREAS, Patty Lung’s professionalism and amiable spirit will be sorely missed by the members of the Senate, her colleagues in the Senate Clerk’s Office, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with her; and

WHEREAS, Patty Lung can now savor her well-deserved retirement, spending more time with her family and friends and fully enjoying her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and golf enthusiast; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Patricia J. Lung be commended on her devoted and time-honored service to the Senate and the Commonwealth of Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Patricia J. Lung as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s appreciation for her hard work and dedication and best wishes for success in the next chapter in her life.
