12100818DWHEREAS, Ronald Anthony Campana, an admired civic and health services leader who made numerous contributions to the Williamsburg area, died on September 13, 2011; and
WHEREAS, a native of London, England, Ronald “Ron” Campana relocated to Williamsburg with his family as a child and graduated from Walsingham Academy before proudly serving his country in the United States Army as a medic during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, upon completing his military service, Ron Campana went to work for Williamsburg Community Hospital as the blood bank supervisor while also completing a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University; and
WHEREAS, an excellent administrator and leader, Ron Campana became Williamsburg Community Hospital’s director of community relations and marketing and worked diligently to encourage positive relationships with local citizens; and
WHEREAS, Ron Campana recognized the need for additional comprehensive medical care for the community and opened, along with his father and brother, First Med of Williamsburg, which today continues to provide caring and compassionate health services; and
WHEREAS, later in life, Ron Campana began a second career as a realtor with GSH Real Estate, helping prospective homeowners find the perfect home to meet their needs; and
WHEREAS, as a former medic and blood bank supervisor, Ron Campana realized the importance of maintaining an adequate blood supply for the community and coordinated several blood drives a year through his affiliation with the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Campana’s blood drive efforts helped ensure that countless area residents had access to the life-giving blood needed to recover from illness, accident, or surgery; and
WHEREAS, Ron Campana’s enthusiasm and dedication for organizing local blood drives influenced his son, Ron, who established another blood drive in honor of his grandfather, Vincent, which continues to collect hundreds of units of blood every year; and
WHEREAS, Ron Campana’s compassion, drive, and commitment to serving those in need were apparent as he generously shared his expertise and experience with the Colonial Virginia Chapter of the American Red Cross, Virginia Society for Hospital Public Relations and Marketing, Williamsburg Social Services board, and Hospice House of Williamsburg board; and
WHEREAS, Ron Campana embodied the ideals of active citizenry, seeing needs in the community and striving to do his part in an effort to help his fellow friends, neighbors, and residents; and
WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Ron Campana will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Jeri; his children, Rachel and Ron, and their families; and his numerous other family members, friends, and admirers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a valued member of the Williamsburg community and respected citizen of the Commonwealth, Ronald Anthony Campana; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ronald Anthony Campana as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
