Commending Captain Cathy Ann Harrison.

WHEREAS, Captain Cathy Ann Harrison, a respected Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist licensed in Virginia, and a Reserve Duty Naval Officer with the United States Navy Reserve, has been named the Commanding Officer of Operational Health Support Unit Bethesda supporting Walter Reed National Military Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, Captain Harrison is the first and only Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the Naval Reserve Component to receive the honor of serving as a Commanding Officer for an operational health support unit; and

WHEREAS, Captain Harrison, as Commanding Officer, oversees the more than 600 military physicians, dentists, nurses, and medical service corps officers and corpsmen who provide health care to wounded military personnel, active duty and reserve component military members and their dependents, and retirees in a Joint Military Medical Command; and

WHEREAS, Captain Harrison has served with honor and distinction in the Navy Reserve for 21 years; and

WHEREAS, Captain Harrison served as a respected and valued resource to the Navy Reserve during three separate mobilizations, including Operation Desert Storm in 1990, Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, and Operation Enduring Freedom in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Captain Harrison, in recognition of her commitment and outstanding service to the military, was awarded Navy Commendation medals in 2003 and 2008; and

WHEREAS, Captain Harrison, in recognition for outstanding meritorious service to the United States, received the Army’s Meritorious Service Medal in 2008 for her service to Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, and Coalition servicemen and women at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, Captain Harrison, in recognition for her outstanding meritorious service to the United States, received the Navy’s Meritorious Service Medal in 2011 for her exemplary work as Executive Officer of the Operational Health Support Unit, Camp Lejeune; and

WHEREAS, Captain Harrison has practiced as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for 33 years, providing quality anesthesia care to thousands of Virginians; and

WHEREAS, Captain Harrison, in addition to her other duties, is the president of the Virginia Association of Nurse Anesthetists; and

WHEREAS, Captain Harrison’s commitment to ensuring that members of the United States Armed Forces receive the best in quality health care will long be recognized; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Captain Cathy Ann Harrison; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Captain Cathy Ann Harrison as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her work to ensure the continued health and safety of the armed forces of the United States.
