2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Andrew J. White, Sr., was born in King and Queen County, and after answering the call to Christian ministry, he served his first pastorate at First Baptist Church in Heathsville on Virginia’s Northern Neck; he began his service as pastor of Zion Baptist Church in Petersburg, which hosted mass meetings during the Civil Rights Movement, and Union Branch Baptist Church in Prince George, where he served both churches for 50 years; and
WHEREAS, recently retired, Reverend Dr. Andrew J. White, Sr., has served the Petersburg, Hopewell, and Colonial Heights communities for more than 50 years; his volunteer work includes the United Way, the Role Model Program of Virginia Avenue School, fundraising to promote community improvement, and affiliation with Southside Regional Medical Center, Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, and the Petersburg Library Foundation; and
WHEREAS, on January 30, 2012, Reverend Dr. Andrew J. White, Sr., was honored as the recipient of the 2012 Good Samaritan Award presented by the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC), an award presented to individuals who have provided exceptional service to others, and whose body of good works is “so extraordinary, selfless, and life-changing that it is worthy of applause, recognition, and being held up to others as a ‘gold standard’ example of philanthropic community service”; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Andrew J. White, Sr., has served the community in many ways, from teacher to community advocate to pastor, and has had a positive and enriching influence on thousands of people; he is the epitome of a “Virginia gentleman” and demonstrates a love for all people; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Andrew J. White, Sr.’s unconditional love for people and his selfless service to the community are worthy of emulation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Reverend Dr. Andrew J. White, Sr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Reverend Dr. Andrew J. White, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of his fine service and contributions to the people of the Commonwealth.
