12105831DWHEREAS, Mary Ann Weirich Benedett of Frederick County, a registered nurse who had an active interest in her community, working to make a positive difference wherever she lived and to assist those around her any way she could, died on February 13, 2012; and
WHEREAS, a native of Warren, Ohio, Mary Ann Benedett became a registered nurse, providing quality and compassionate medical care to her patients; as medical standards changed and improved, she kept current with the latest advances in medical care to better serve her patients; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann Benedett was interested in smoothing the transition for people relocating into her community; she was president of Welcome Wagon in West Hartford, Connecticut, and she was a member of the New Comer board of the Kansas City Women’s Center for the University of Missouri; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann Benedett’s interest in local affairs included leadership roles in the local and state Republican Party; she also served as a role model for young women as a Girl Scout leader for more than 15 years; and
WHEREAS, a woman of strong faith, Mary Ann Benedett was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Winchester, and she appreciated the solace and friendship provided by the church and its members; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann Benedett will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her husband, Thomas; her children, Kathryn, Jean, Karen, and Frank, and their families; and by many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen who worked to improve her community and make it a welcoming place for all, Mary Ann Weirich Benedett; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Mary Ann Weirich Benedett as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
