WHEREAS, Patricia Anne Zimmerman of Arlington, who took an active role in community affairs throughout her life, died on February 12, 2012; and
WHEREAS, born in New York City, Patricia “Pat” Zimmerman grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, and graduated from Western Connecticut State College (now University); and
WHEREAS, Pat Zimmerman spent most of her adult life in New York and Connecticut, where she worked in the publishing, legal, and corporate relocation fields and developed a deep appreciation for the cultural arts; and
WHEREAS, an engaged citizen, Pat Zimmerman took an active role in civic affairs throughout her life, volunteering with local Democratic Party offices and working to enhance ecumenical roles for women through her church involvement; and
WHEREAS, in 1984, Pat Zimmerman relocated to Arlington and continued her strong tradition of community involvement, donating many hours to the Arlington County Democratic Committee and participating in local church outreach efforts; and
WHEREAS, as aide to Virginia State Senator Edward M. Holland, Pat Zimmerman worked diligently to resolve constituent concerns and worked professionally alongside legislative staff and members of the General Assembly; and
WHEREAS, Pat Zimmerman devoted many hours to the Volunteers of America Chesapeake’s Residential Program Center, providing important service to aid in the organization’s mission; and
WHEREAS, Pat Zimmerman continued to enjoy and expand her knowledge of the cultural arts while in Virginia, taking every course on Shakespeare offered by the Arlington Learning in Retirement Institute, attending the theatre, and enjoying exhibitions at art museums; and
WHEREAS, Pat Zimmerman leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Christopher and Jennifer, and their families, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of the Commonwealth, Patricia Anne Zimmerman; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Patricia Anne Zimmerman as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
