Commending the Charlotte County Dixie Youth Baseball Majors team.

WHEREAS, the Charlotte County Dixie Youth Baseball Majors team proudly claimed the Dixie Baseball state championship for the third consecutive time in 2011; the team’s most recent title was achieved in a tightly contested competition; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Charlotte County Majors all star team competed over several days, beginning July 23, 2011; the talented and enthusiastic team played against teams from Buckingham and Goochland Counties and the Town of South Hill; and

WHEREAS, the Majors’ fate was uncertain throughout the tournament, which was held in Botetourt County; the team from Charlotte County trailed 4–0 in its first game—against Buckingham County—but rallied to win 14–4, with home runs from Josh Jones and Kendrick Goldman; and

WHEREAS, the Charlotte County team won its second game against Goochland County, the team favored to win the tournament, but with strong pitching from Tyler Amos, Raleigh Duffer, and Josh Jones and good hits, the Majors won their second game 7–6; and

WHEREAS, after a one-day rain delay, the Charlotte County Majors defeated South Hill 4–3, to set up a Charlotte County rematch against Goochland County the next day; in the second meeting, the Majors came up short, losing 10–0; and

WHEREAS, the Charlotte County Majors had two more games to play in the tournament; the team first faced Buckingham in a rematch and won a close game 9–8, and the Majors then entered the championship game to face Goochland for the third time in the 2011 competition; and

WHEREAS, in the game to determine the state winner, the Charlotte County Majors were losing by one run going into the final inning; the Majors tied the game at 1–1 and then claimed the title—and their third championship—with a winning hit from John Walker; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Charlotte County Dixie Youth Baseball Majors team for winning the 2011 Dixie Baseball state championship, the team’s third consecutive state title; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Charlotte County Dixie Youth Baseball Majors team as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on an outstanding season.
