Commending the Gar-Field High School boys’ basketball team.

Agreed to by the Senate, March 1, 2012

WHEREAS, the Gar-Field High School boys’ basketball team had a magnificent 2011–2012 undefeated regular season, achieving an impressive 22–0 record; and

WHEREAS, the winning season for the Prince William County school had a special meaning for the players and the Gar-Field community because the Indians’ head coach, Andy Gray, notched his 300th win during this school year when the team defeated Potomac High School, 72–59, on December 13, 2011; and

WHEREAS, at the opening tip-off against Potomac High School, the players and fans of the Gar-Field High School Indians realized that victory was not a sure thing; two top scorers were out for the entire game, and the team was playing the away game in a gym known as Panther Pit; and

WHEREAS, the Gar-Field High School Indians rallied to claim victory with a lineup that featured some team members who had not played regularly during the season, and except for the opening minutes of each half, the Indians led the entire game; and

WHEREAS, the Gar-Field High School basketball team played in a confident and straightforward manner in the final regular season game against Hylton High School on February 10, 2012; the players and the coaching staff knew that the team was well-prepared and the group had bonded earlier in the season; and

WHEREAS, Gar-Field High School head basketball coach Andy Gray, a native of Vinton, took his team to the Roanoke Valley over the holidays when the Indians played in the K-Guard Holiday Classic basketball tournament at the Salem Civic Center; the team from Woodbridge won the championship for the second year in a row; and

WHEREAS, Coach Gray attributed the team’s winning 2011–2012 season to the hard work of the players and coaching staff and to the strong support shown by the entire Gar-Field High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Gar-Field High School boys’ basketball team, under the leadership of Head Coach Andy Gray, on its undefeated regular season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Andy Gray, head coach of the Gar-Field High School boys’ basketball team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations for an outstanding and memorable season for both Coach Gray and the team.
