WHEREAS, Virginia R. Diamond, a Commissioner of the Virginia Workers’’ Compensation Commission, retired on December 1, 2011, after 17 years of exemplary service to the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, appointed by the General Assembly in 1994 to serve on the Virginia Workers’’ Compensation Commission, Virginia Diamond was reappointed to additional terms in 2000 and 2006; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Workers’’ Compensation Commission oversees the administration of the Virginia Workers’’ Compensation Act and Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund and hears claims for entry into the Birth-Related Neurological Injury Compensation Program; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Diamond provided strong leadership to the Virginia Workers’’ Compensation Commission, serving as chair from July 1, 1997, through June 30, 2000, and again from July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2009; and

WHEREAS, committed to providing Virginians with the best possible service, Virginia Diamond oversaw the implementation of a web-based system for submission and adjudication of workers’’ compensation claims that allows all parties access to their files; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Diamond served with great distinction and a strong commitment to excellence to ensure the fair administration of claims; and

WHEREAS, after 17 years of service, Virginia Diamond looks forward to spending time with family and friends during her well-deserved retirement; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Virginia R. Diamond on her exceptional public service on the occasion of her retirement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Virginia R. Diamond as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and best wishes in her future endeavors.
