Celebrating the life of Michael A. Bucci.

WHEREAS, Michael A. Bucci of Williamsburg, a greatly esteemed and respected high school football coach, a Realtor, and a devoted husband and father, died on January 24, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a native of New Castle, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Shenango High School, where he earned state honors in football, Michael “Mike” Bucci received a football scholarship to The College of William and Mary; and

WHEREAS, Mike Bucci attended The College of William and Mary from 1962–1966, playing for the Indians under coaches Milt Drewer and Marv Levy; his love for the Tribe stayed with him his entire life; and

WHEREAS, upon graduation, Mike Bucci chose to live in the Williamsburg area and work in the public schools; he was a teacher and served in other capacities for 27 years; his affable personality, talent, and love of life left a lasting impression on all who knew him; and

WHEREAS, Mike Bucci was head football coach and athletic director at James Blair High School and later at Lafayette High School from its founding; he guided the 1973 Lafayette Rams to an undefeated regular season and was coach for several more winning seasons; and

WHEREAS, as the Williamsburg area schools integrated, so did their football teams; Mike Bucci played a pivotal role in ensuring a smooth transition and focused on bringing players together on the field to work as a team; and

WHEREAS, Mike Bucci greatly enjoyed getting to know and mentoring the players on his football teams; his friendship extended to the coaches he worked with and to the administrators and teachers in both schools; and

WHEREAS, in 1977, Mike Bucci began working for Murphy & McCardle Realty and was named sales manager for McCardle Realty in 1992; his leadership skills were evident in his new career as he served as president of the Williamsburg Association of Realtors; and

WHEREAS, a loyal alumnus of The College of William and Mary, Mike Bucci was a  president of the Quarterback Club and Order of the White Jacket; he is remembered for his jovial sense of humor, his cookouts, and his love of golf and bocce; and

WHEREAS, Mike Bucci will be greatly missed by his wife, Diana; his parents, Alfred and Madaline; his sons, Mark and Scott, and their families; and by countless other family members, friends, members of his football teams, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an inspiring coach, a dedicated businessman, and a loving husband and father, Michael A. Bucci; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Michael A. Bucci as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory and appreciation for his work with young people and his community.
