Commending Wee Play.

WHEREAS, Wee Play was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2012 Best of Reston Award; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston Awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the greater Reston community and improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Wee Play, owned and directed by Kathy Brennan generously gives back to the local community and provides children up to age five with a fun, caring, and positive environment in which to learn and play; and

WHEREAS, Wee Play features a 3,000 square foot studio, gym, and indoor play land where children have the opportunity to play with other children, develop their cognitive and motor skills, and express their creativity; and

WHEREAS, Wee Play provides weekly parent/child enrichment classes, drop-in open play, birthday parties, summer camp, and twice yearly baby showers for new moms who participate in the Healthy Families Fairfax program for first-time, at-risk parents; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to reaching as many children as possible, Wee Play opened its studio weekly to children at Laurel Learning Center and Embry Rucker Community Shelter; when transportation issues arose for children at the shelter, Wee Play went to the shelter, transforming part of it into a welcoming space for children while providing a respite for parents; and

WHEREAS, for Mother’s Day 2011, Kathy Brennan coordinated a Mom’s Night Out for mothers at the Embry Rucker Community Shelter, recruiting volunteers for childcare and raising funds to take the mothers out for dinner and manicures; and

WHEREAS, Wee Play has also provided children’s activities at the Herndon and Reston Festivals, Autumn Adventure, and Reston Holiday Parade, while offering intergenerational classes at the Herndon Senior Center; and

WHEREAS, a vital member of the Reston community, Wee Play proudly supports preschools in the area in addition to the Spinal Research Foundation at the Virginia Spine Institute; and

WHEREAS, Wee Play offers children a stimulating, safe, and positive environment in which to learn and grow and demonstrates the power that a small business can have in the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Wee Play on its outstanding service to the residents of Northern Virginia and on its well-deserved honor as a 2012 Best of Reston Award recipient; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Wee Play as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for its tireless dedication to Reston.
