2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, Rose Pleskow of Reston, one of nine Virginia athletes who competed at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games, captured a bronze medal in the 1,500-meter race and won fourth place in the 800-meter race in the track and field competition; and
WHEREAS, over 7,500 athletes traveled to the historic city of Athens, Greece, to participate in the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games held June 25–July 4, 2011; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of South Lakes High School, Rose Pleskow maintained honor roll status while also pursuing her love of track and field and competing in sailing, cross-country skiing, and swimming; and
WHEREAS, Rose Pleskow has volunteered with community service organizations such as the Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia’s Northern Virginia office, the Reston Hospital Center, and the Fairfax County Park Authority; and
WHEREAS, a hardworking athlete, Rose Pleskow medaled in the 1,500- and 3,000-meter races at the 2010 Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games and won gold at the 2011 Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games; and
WHEREAS, in preparation for the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games, Rose Pleskow spent countless hours on the track, perfecting her stride and building endurance; and
WHEREAS, excited to be a part of the international competition, Rose Pleskow had the opportunity to meet fellow athletes and take in the sights and sounds of Greece before capturing a bronze medal in the 1,500-meter race and winning fourth place in the 800-meter race in the track and field competition; and
WHEREAS, a talented track and field athlete and inspiring role model, Rose Pleskow proudly represented Reston, the Commonwealth, and the nation at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Rose Pleskow on her outstanding Special Olympics track and field career and her exemplary performance in Athens, Greece, at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rose Pleskow as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for her dedication to the Special Olympics, her fellow athletes, and the sport of track and field.
