2012 SESSION
12104273DWHEREAS, the 2011–2012 men’s cross country team won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) cross country title making this the fourth consecutive MEAC cross country title and the 11th conference championship for the Norfolk State University men’s cross country team in the last 12 years; and
WHEREAS, the performance of all the runners has been outstanding in clinching this coveted championship title that brings with it positive recognition to the men’s cross country team, the athletic program, and the University; and
WHEREAS, special tribute for a job well done is extended to the Spartan men who earned All-MEAC honors, to NSU senior Philemon Kimutai, who was named the MEAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week twice during the season, and to Josef Tessema for being named most outstanding performer at the MEAC Championships; and
WHEREAS, such teamwork, dedication, and success is guided by the University coaching staff, who provide the foundation for building strength, flexibility, and character for these young men while encouraging a positive attitude; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Kenneth Giles has become a legend in his own right by being named the MEAC Men’s Most Outstanding Coach a total of 23 times; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend the men’s cross country team, Head Coach Kenneth Giles, and the assistant coaches for their remarkable achievements and success; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the men’s cross country team, Head Coach Kenneth Giles, and the assistant coaches as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations for the team’s championship performance.
