12103045DWHEREAS, Orlin L. Oatman of Mechanicsville, a hardworking individual who made numerous contributions to his country and community over the course of his life, died on December 10, 2011; and
WHEREAS, as a young man, Orlin “Pat” Oatman joined thousands of other men of his generation in the war effort as the United States became embroiled in World War II; and
WHEREAS, Pat Oatman proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot, flying the renowned P-47 Thunderbolt; and
WHEREAS, after the war, Pat Oatman settled in the Mechanicsville area, raising a family and working as a salesman for Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company; and
WHEREAS, a valued employee, Pat Oatman provided exemplary service to his customers and earned many sales awards over the course of his 38-year career with the company; and
WHEREAS, Pat Oatman continued to serve his fellow veterans over the course of his life as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars #9808 and as past commander of American Legion Post 175; and
WHEREAS, as a member of the Hanover Ruritan Club, Pat Oatman looked for ways to be of service to the community and participated in the club’s many activities; and
WHEREAS, Pat Oatman worshipped at Walnut Grove Baptist Church, where he served as director of the men’s department and enjoyed fellowship with other members; and
WHEREAS, a man of integrity, Pat Oatman served his country, community, and family with great enthusiasm and commitment; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by his daughter, Bettie, Pat Oatman will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Mildred; surviving daughters, Aimee, Peggy, and Terry, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of the Commonwealth, Orlin L. Oatman; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Orlin L. Oatman as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
