Commending Tony and Monica Brothers.

WHEREAS, Tony and Monica Brothers founded Still Hope Foundation, headquartered in Smithfield, to empower, assist, and enhance the lives of single mothers and their families; and

WHEREAS, Tony Brothers, and his wife, Monica, formed Still Hope Foundation to honor his own late single mother, Dorothy, a former national director for the Bank of America Supplier Diversity and Development Group, who created a scholarship for minority and women business owners; and

WHEREAS, Tony and Monica Brothers wanted single mothers to have access to a support network that would provide supportive relationships, quality resources, and life skills training that would enable them to build and maintain a stable family unit; and

WHEREAS, Still Hope Foundation offers classes on basic parenting skills and financial literacy, provides continuing education options, and pairs women with a volunteer coach through its “Journey for Success” program; and

WHEREAS, Still Hope Foundation serves a wide range of women, from teenage mothers to those newly divorced or widowed, with the goal of helping them become self-reliant and able to sustain a successful family unit; and

WHEREAS, Tony Brothers, currently in his thirteenth season as a referee for the National Basketball Association, handles fundraising, while Monica, who previously worked at Tidewater Community College’s Women’s Center and the YWCA, works with the mothers and children; and

WHEREAS, Tony and Monica Brothers have truly honored his mother, Dorothy, through the formation of Still Hope Foundation, which empowers single mothers as they raise the future generation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Tony and Monica Brothers for their efforts to enhance the lives of single mothers and their families; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tony and Monica Brothers as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and appreciation of the Brothers’ commitment to helping build successful family units.
