2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. A. Lincoln James, Jr., will celebrate 32 years of faithful service to the congregation of Trinity Baptist Church in Richmond in 2012; and
WHEREAS, as a young man, Lincoln James felt the call to the ministry and earned a bachelor’s degree from North Park College and Seminary; he later earned a master of divinity degree from Virginia Union University’s Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology and received two honorary doctorates; and
WHEREAS, Dr. James began his career as a youth minister at Greater Bethesda Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois, before relocating to Virginia, where he served as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Kilmarnock, Tabernacle Baptist Church in Petersburg, and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Prince George County; and
WHEREAS, as pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Richmond since 1980, Dr. James has been an inspiring spiritual leader dedicated to ministering to congregational needs while reaching out to the members of the community; and
WHEREAS, a highly respected leader, Dr. James has served as third vice president of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, member of the board of trustees at the University of Lynchburg, adjunct professor at Virginia Union University’s Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology, and immediate past president of the Virginia Baptist State Convention, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, throughout his pastoral career, Dr. James has remained focused on how he personally and the corporate church can meet the needs of community members; his humanitarian endeavors have uplifted the downtrodden and encouraged others to follow in his footsteps; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Reverend Dr. A. Lincoln James, Jr., hereby be commended for his 32 years of service to Trinity Baptist Church in Richmond; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Dr. A. Lincoln James, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his distinguished service to Trinity Baptist Church and the community.
