Commending the Battlefield High School marching band.

WHEREAS, the Battlefield High School marching band was named the 2012 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National Championship High School marching band and performed at the Allstate BCS National Championship football pregame show in New Orleans; and

WHEREAS, the Battlefield High School band from Prince William County competed in the WorldStrides Heritage Performance event on January 7, 2012; the 168 members of the Marching Bobcats who took part were thrilled when they won first place and the right to perform in the pregame show; and

WHEREAS, the Marching Bobcats from Prince William County were showcased on national television before the start of the highly anticipated football game between Louisiana State University and the University of Alabama; band members also hoisted the American flag during the playing of the National Anthem; and

WHEREAS, the 24-hour journey by bus from Haymarket to New Orleans was both exciting and exhausting for the Battlefield High School band members, who were eager to take part in the festivities; and

WHEREAS, after an overnight rest in New Orleans, the Battlefield High School marching band assembled in a rehearsal room, put on their uniforms, and performed at the Mercedes-Benz SuperDome in front of their supporters and two other bands; and

WHEREAS, the Marching Bobcats swept the competition at WorldStrides, being named top band in their category and also winning the marching, music, drum major, general effect, and drums titles; the victory was secured even though the band had not had full-on rehearsals since the end of marching season; and

WHEREAS, in the WorldStrides competition to become the best of the bands, the Battlefield High School Marching Bobcats received a total score of 94 out of 100 points; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Battlefield High School marching band hereby be commended for being named the 2012 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National Championship High School marching band; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Matthew Brodt, director of the Battlefield High School marching band, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for its hard work and outstanding performance.
