HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 6
Commending the Future Farmers of America of Powhatan Junior High School.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 20, 2012

 

WHEREAS, the cultivation of the soil, and the human culture that derives from the agrarian way of life, are foundational elements of the Virginian tradition and continue to account for the principal virtues of Virginian social and political institutions; and

WHEREAS, the Future Farmers of America (FFA) ensures that the singular skills of the agriculturalist are transmitted to each rising generation; and

WHEREAS, the FFA has for decades been an integral aspect of the extracurricular opportunities provided by Powhatan Junior High School; the school’s chapter currently enjoys a membership of over 100 students; and

WHEREAS, four members of the Powhatan Junior High School FFA have earned first-place awards in competition among all FFA members in the Commonwealth, including Daija Goode, Virginia State Junior Horse Evaluation CDE; Ethan Spott, whose project comparing mold growth on different breads with varying amounts of whole-wheat content was judged best in the Junior Food Science Division of the state Agriscience Fair; and Henry Wood and Sam Ashby, joint winners of the Junior Zoology Division of the state Agriscience Fair for a project comparing respective weight gain between caged and free-range broiler chickens; and

WHEREAS, Henry Paris is advisor to the FFA Chapter and Powhatan Junior High’s teacher of agriculture, serving 140 students; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Members of the body commend the achievements in statewide competition of the aforementioned students of Powhatan Junior High School; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mr. Henry Paris in behalf of the commendable endeavors of all members of the Future Farmers of America of Powhatan Junior High School.
