2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, Rock Hill Baptist Church in Stafford County joyfully celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2012; and
WHEREAS, located just outside the boundaries of the United States Marine Corps Base Quantico, the Southern Baptist church congregation actively serves all people of Stafford County, including the many active duty, reserve, and retired members of the United States Marine Corps and their families; and
WHEREAS, the members and leaders of Rock Hill Baptist Church have been providing assistance to the residents of the greater Stafford County area for the past two centuries, generously offering support and encouragement to those who face difficulties; and
WHEREAS, in recent years, the need has been great; in 2011 the people of Rock Hill Baptist Church provided more than two tons of food to over 100 families, following biblical teachings to care for one’s neighbors, feed the poor, and minister to the sick; and
WHEREAS, by having its home so close to one of the nation’s top military bases, Rock Hill Baptist Church has an active ministry to military personnel in the area; the church helps families whose loved ones have been deployed in defense of the nation and ministers to their spiritual, emotional, and physical needs; and
WHEREAS, the pastor of Rock Hill Baptist Church, who serves as a chaplain in the United States Army Reserve, welcomes all members of the military to worship at the church; officers and enlisted personnel serve, worship, and enjoy fellowship together, regardless of rank; and
WHEREAS, with an unceasing commitment to serving others, Rock Hill Baptist Church has experienced great spiritual growth, drawing its strength from the faith and dedication of its members; and
WHEREAS, the congregation of Rock Hill Baptist Church will have a 200th anniversary homecoming celebration on September 9, 2012, with a special program that will honor its past and look ahead to many more years of worship and faithful service to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Rock Hill Baptist Church hereby be commended on the occasion of its 200th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rock Hill Baptist Church as an expression of the House of Delegates’ appreciation for its two centuries of service to Stafford County, the Commonwealth, and the nation.
