2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, Moses Wyche faithfully served his fellow residents as a member of the Southampton County Board of Supervisors from January 1, 2004, until December 31, 2011; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Southampton County Public Schools, Moses Wyche was employed at J.T. Barham & Co. for 47 years and has served as an attendant at Engram Funeral Home for 49 years; and
WHEREAS, a familiar face in the community, Moses Wyche brought a wealth of experience to the board of supervisors from years of service to various organizations; and
WHEREAS, Moses Wyche served as past president and member of the board of directors of the Capron Ruritan Club, district zone governor of Ruritan National, District Deputy Grand Master of the 10th Masonic District, in various roles with the Capron Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department including as president and chief, and member of the Mars Hill Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, as a member of the Southampton County Board of Supervisors, Moses Wyche worked collaboratively alongside his fellow members to ensure the efficient and effective operation of local government for residents; and
WHEREAS, Moses Wyche provided thoughtful insight and guidance as the county acquired and initiated development of a new 250-acre industrial park, constructed a new regional wastewater treatment plant, developed and adopted a master plan for parks and recreation, and installed a Reverse 9-1-1 system at the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center; and
WHEREAS, other accomplishments of the Southhampton County Board of Supervisors during Moses Wyche’s tenure included work to have the Blackwater River and remaining portion of the Nottoway River designated as state scenic rivers and designation of Southampton County as an Enterprise Zone; and
WHEREAS, during his eight years on the Southampton County Board of Supervisors, Moses Wyche proved to be an effective and dedicated public servant; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Moses Wyche hereby be commended for his eight years of dedicated service on the Southampton County Board of Supervisors; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Moses Wyche as an expression of the House of Delegates’ appreciation and respect for his commitment to public service.
