2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, T. Wayne Birdsong, a dedicated public servant, admirably and effectively served as a member of the Sussex County Board of Supervisors from January 1, 2008, until December 31, 2011; and
WHEREAS, as a successful project superintendent in the construction industry, Wayne Birdsong brought a business background to the important work of local government; he is proud that during his tenure, the board of supervisors did not raise county taxes for Sussex residents and businesses; and
WHEREAS, Wayne Birdsong served on the Personnel Committee of the Sussex County Board of Supervisors; he also promoted better coordination of the rescue squads that serve the county; and
WHEREAS, despite difficult economic times, Wayne Birdsong and the other members of the Sussex County Board of Supervisors did not reduce the budget for county schools, and the board was able to fund all county employee positions; and
WHEREAS, Wayne Birdsong encouraged economic and industrial development in Sussex County; he made recommendations regarding grant applications and supported the purchase of land for future use as industrial parks; and
WHEREAS, Wayne Birdsong is committed to serving his community in a myriad of ways; for the past 11 years, he and his wife, Evelyn, have fed the needy at Thanksgiving; the effort has grown from serving 23 people in the first year to providing a hearty dinner for 267 people in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Wayne Birdsong stays active in Sussex County civic affairs as a member of the Wakefield Ruritan Club, the Surry Ruritan Club, the Wakefield Sportsmen’s Club, and the Sussex County Republican Party; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That an effective and generous public servant, T. Wayne Birdsong, hereby be commended; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to T. Wayne Birdsong as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect and appreciation for his work on behalf of the residents and businesses of Sussex County.
