HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 61
Commending Glover W. Pegram.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 9, 2012

 

WHEREAS, Glover W. Pegram, a dedicated public servant, served with distinction as a member of the Sussex County Board of Supervisors; he was elected in 1975 and served for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Glover Pegram also was a member of the Crater District Planning Commission; during his years of service, he served as chairman of both governmental bodies, providing wise and thoughtful counsel and attending to the needs of his constituents; and

WHEREAS, in addition to serving in local government, Glover Pegram, who has deep ties to Sussex County, was a founder of the Sussex County Improvement Association and is a member of the board of directors of the St. John Child Development Center, where he volunteers; and

WHEREAS, Glover Pegram worked at Allied Chemical, which is now Honeywell, for almost 33 years; earlier in his career, he was employed by Central State Hospital for four years, and he was a part-time bricklayer throughout his working life; his business experience held him in good stead as he worked to address the issues affecting Sussex County; and

WHEREAS, recognizing the importance of staying closely involved with his community, Glover Pegram volunteers with the Sussex County Department of Social Services and serves on the Sussex County Democratic Committee; and

WHEREAS, Glover Pegram worships at St. John Baptist Church in Stony Creek, where he has been a member for more than 65 years; he serves on the board of trustees and was its chairman for 27 years; and he is involved with the Big Brothers Ministry and was Sunday school superintendent; and

WHEREAS, during his many years of exemplary service to the people of Sussex County, Glover Pegram always tried to follow this motto, “Do what you can, as long as you can, to help somebody,” and he now looks forward to spending more time with his family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That an admired and selfless public servant, Glover W. Pegram, hereby be commended; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Glover W. Pegram as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect and appreciation for his many years of service to Sussex County and to the Commonwealth.
