Commending John V. Talmage.

WHEREAS, John V. Talmage admirably served as a valued member of the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors for six years, attending to residents’ concerns and providing thoughtful counsel in the important affairs of local government; and

WHEREAS, John Talmage, who represented the Third District on the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors, was instrumental in the creation of the Meherrin River Regional Jail Authority and the construction of the jail facility; and

WHEREAS, John Talmage founded the Dinwiddie County Litter Control & Beautification Task Force, recognizing that as a rural county with a growing population, both new and longtime residents would take pride in living in a clean and attractive area; and

WHEREAS, providing a strong athletics program for the young people of Dinwiddie County was a priority for John Talmage, and he played a key role in the development of the Dinwiddie County Sports Complex so that people had a space to stay physically active and enjoy outdoor sports; and

WHEREAS, John Talmage served on the Dinwiddie County Planning Commission before becoming a member of the board of supervisors, and in both capacities he worked diligently on issues important not only to Dinwiddie residents but to the Commonwealth, including safe driving initiatives, animal safety measures, zip code matters, and other areas requiring close scrutiny; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to the principles of good government, during his tenure John Talmage held town hall meetings so that he could become aware of and respond to citizens’ needs, and he also supported local blood drives; and

WHEREAS, John Talmage belongs to Ocran United Methodist Church and is a strong proponent of faith-based involvement in the community; he is a member of the Sutherland Ruritan Club, where he supports the club’s many charitable activities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That an effective and dedicated public servant, John V. Talmage, hereby be commended; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John V. Talmage as an expression of the House of Delegates’ appreciation for his service to Dinwiddie County and to the Commonwealth.
