2012 SESSION
WHEREAS, Karen N. McAllister of Falls Church, a gracious woman whose life was marked by devotion to her family and friends and a deep appreciation for the varied cultures of the world, died on February 21, 2012; and
WHEREAS, a native of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Karen McAllister graduated from Atlantic City High School and Monmouth College, now University; and
WHEREAS, in 1970 Karen McAllister married the love of her life, Michael, and they spent the first four years of their marriage abroad, working in Vietnam, before settling in Falls Church and raising their family there; and
WHEREAS, Karen McAllister had a deep interest in American Indian affairs and culture and supported the American Indian Society of Washington, D.C., which brings together American Indians who live in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area; and
WHEREAS, Karen McAllister was also a devoted patron of American Indian art and developed a keen eye for the exquisite craftsmanship that characterized the wide variety of American Indian artwork; and
WHEREAS, between 1996 and 2005, Karen McAllister and her husband taught English at a university in Changsha, Hunan, China, immersing themselves in the culture of the country and forming strong bonds with their students; and
WHEREAS, a vibrant and compassionate woman, Karen McAllister lived a full and meaningful life and will be greatly missed by her husband, Michael; sons, Keith and Eric, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of the Commonwealth, Karen N. McAllister; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Karen N. McAllister as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
