12105817DWHEREAS, Linda B. Richardson was elected Treasurer of Greensville County on November 2, 2010, and served until December 31, 2011, providing attentive and thorough service to the people and businesses of the county; and
WHEREAS, a native of Woodland, North Carolina, Linda Richardson earned a degree in business administration with a minor in accounting; she has furthered her education at Virginia Tech, the International MFOA Career Development Center, and the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia, and has pursued other professional development opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Linda Richardson moved to Emporia after marrying Bernard Richardson; she has lived in Greensville County for more than 39 years, and the couple has four children, Bernita, Candress, Butch, and Theresa, and three grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Linda Richardson brought a wealth of experience to the position of Treasurer of Greensville County; she has owned a business in the county for two decades and was the Greensville Director of Finance for 10 years, and she also served on the county’s Industrial Development Board; and
WHEREAS, Linda Richardson made history when she was elected Treasurer of Greensville County as the first woman and the first black person to hold the post; during her tenure, she focused on improving communications between the residents of Greensville County and the Treasurer’s Office; and
WHEREAS, during tax season, Linda Richardson offered extended hours at the Treasurer’s Office, staying open later than usual and on Saturdays, to meet the needs of the public; she also oversaw increased productivity in the office and focused on collecting long-delinquent taxes; and
WHEREAS, Linda Richardson is involved in her church; as a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, she helps with Christian education activities, has been a deaconess and a trustee, is president of the Senior Choir, and is a member of the Building Committee; and
WHEREAS, Linda Richardson’s community involvement includes being a life member of the NAACP, vice-chair of the Greensville/Emporia Democratic Committee, and a member of the American Business Women’s Association and the Greensville/Emporia Coalition for Delaying Parenthood In Youth, Inc.; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That an esteemed and dedicated public servant, Linda B. Richardson, hereby be commended; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Linda B. Richardson as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration and respect for her work on behalf of the people and businesses of Greensville County.
