HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 49
Commending Edna Frady.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 8, 2012

 

WHEREAS, Edna Frady, a respected and admired citizen of Falls Church, is commended for her long-standing commitment to community service on the occasion of her 80th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Edna Frady was born on March 13, 1932, and moved to the town of Falls Church in 1947, where she graduated from Falls Church High School in 1950; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Falls Church High School, Edna Frady moved on to study at Madison College, now James Madison University, where she earned a business degree in June of 1954; and

WHEREAS, Edna Frady started working for the National Commission on Teacher Education and Professional Standards, a department of the National Education Association (NEA), immediately upon graduating and continued to work there for nearly 34 years; and

WHEREAS, Edna Frady was honored as the 2000 winner of the Greater Falls Church Chamber of Commerce Pillar of the Community Award; and

WHEREAS, Edna Frady has served as a member of the Falls Church City Democratic Committee for two decades, including selection as both its secretary and chair; and

WHEREAS, Edna Frady has served on the 8th Congressional District Democratic Committee and the Democratic State Central Committee and was awarded the State Central Committee’s “Grass Roots Award” and the Mattie Gundry Award; and

WHEREAS, Edna Frady, considered the “epitome of volunteerism in the community” by Falls Church Mayor Robin Gardner, also served in a wide variety of community organizations such as the Falls Church Village Preservation and Improvement Society; the League of Women Voters; the Woman’s Club of Falls Church, including a term on the club’s board of directors and serving as editor of its newsletter; the Falls Church Lions Club; the Falls Church Education Foundation; the Falls Church Arts Council; and Falls Church’s Citizens for a Better City; and

WHEREAS, the City of Falls Church, in honor of her commitment to the community, proclaimed December 14, 2009, Edna Frady Day; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Edna Frady, in honor of her 80th birthday, hereby be commended for her numerous accomplishments and their positive impact on the lives of the citizens of Falls Church; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Edna Frady as an expression of the House of Delegates’ gratitude for her longtime commitment to community service and her many accomplishments.
