HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 30
Commending Heinrich A. Gideons.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 17, 2012

 

WHEREAS, the informed and self-sacrificing citizen in service to the common good is the indispensable element in the Virginian tradition of public governance; and

WHEREAS, the education of the rising generation of Virginians constitutes one of the foremost obligations of the governance of our communities and counties; and

WHEREAS, Heinrich A. “Rick” Gideons has recently retired from twenty-four years of service, both appointive and elective, on the School Board of Powhatan County; and

WHEREAS, Rick Gideons was first appointed to serve on the Powhatan County School Board in December 1983, serving until June 1987, and subsequently served for uninterrupted terms extending from 1991 until the end of 2011; and

WHEREAS, the duration of service by Rick Gideons to Powhatan County Schools as a member of the county School Board is unsurpassed in recent memory and included seven years as Chairman of the Board and an additional seven years as Vice-Chairman; and

WHEREAS, during the tenure of Rick Gideons, the Powhatan County School Board assumed ever greater responsibilities for an ever-increasing student population, culminating in the construction of a modern new building for Powhatan High School; and

WHEREAS, the public service of Rick Gideons has included, too, chairmanship of the Board of the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates commend Heinrich A. Gideons for his near quarter-century of service to and accomplishments as a member and chairman of the Powhatan County School Board and also for his other contributions to the civic life of his community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this Resolution for presentation to Heinrich A. Gideons in wishing him well in his retirement from the responsibilities of his long service to Powhatan County Schools.
