HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 28
Commending Robert H. Conner.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 17, 2012

 

WHEREAS, Robert H. Conner, a respected and dedicated public servant, who ably served on the Brunswick County Board of Supervisors for almost two decades, retired in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Robert H. “Bob” Conner made many lasting contributions to Brunswick County during his tenure, especially in his successful work to implement a countywide 911 emergency response system; the new system also included the mapping and naming of county roads; and

WHEREAS, Bob Conner, who represented the Meherrin District from 1992 through 2011, played a key role in the establishment of a countywide zoning effort in Brunswick County and in the construction of the Albertis S. Harrison, Jr., Courthouse in Lawrenceville; and

WHEREAS, in actively working to improve his community, Bob Conner helped to develop the Fort Christanna Historical Site; he also was instrumental in the designation of the Meherrin River as a Virginia Scenic River; and

WHEREAS, Bob Conner, who represented the board of supervisors on the Brunswick County Planning Commission and served on the Southside Planning District Commission Board of Directors, was a graduate of the Virginia Certified County Supervisor Program; and

WHEREAS, Bob Conner was a member of the board of the Lake Country Development Corporation and chairman of the Roanoke River Service Authority Board of Directors and was active in many other local and regional government boards; and

WHEREAS, Bob Conner generously gives of his time to community organizations; he is a life member of the Ebony Volunteer Fire Department, has served as an officer in the South Brunswick Ruritan Club, and worships at Prospect United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, a native of Brunswick County, Bob Conner runs a cattle farm and was the owner of an insurance adjusting company; he sought common ground with business and farming interests through his work on the board of supervisors and always tried to do what was best for the county and its residents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Robert H. Conner hereby be commended for his exemplary service to his neighbors, to Brunswick County, and to the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert H. Conner as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his many years of service to Brunswick County.
