Commending Bennett Feild Owen.

WHEREAS, Bennett Feild Owen of Emporia has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest advancement award given by the Boy Scouts of America; he was honored for this achievement at a ceremony on October 2, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Bennett Owen is a member of Boy Scout Troop 209 in Emporia whose current Scoutmaster is Chuck Lifsey; Bennett Owen started in Scouting when he was 12 and the troop at that time was led by David Bland; and

WHEREAS, Bennett Owen’s Eagle Scout project was the High Hills Baptist Church Pavilion Beautification and Sidewalk effort; the church lacked a sidewalk from the driveway to the pavilion, which is used regularly by church members; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the sidewalk construction, Bennett Owen landscaped the area around the High Hills Baptist Church pavilion; he graded the site to provide better drainage, brought in many loads of topsoil, and planted grasses and shrubs to beautify the area; and

WHEREAS, Bennett Owen has been quartermaster, assistant patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, and senior patrol leader for Troop 209; other activities include attending Boy Scout camps and the 2010 National Scout Jamboree, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of Scouting; and

WHEREAS, Bennett Owen, an eleventh grade student at Brunswick Academy in Lawrenceville, is interested in golf and a variety of other sports, including archery and hunting; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Bennett Feild Owen hereby be commended for the distinguished honor of becoming an Eagle Scout; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bennett Feild Owen as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for living up to the highest goals of Scouting and for working to improve his community.
