HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 23
Commending Francena McCorory.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 10, 2012

 

WHEREAS, Francena McCorory of Hampton, who set national records in track and field competition while in high school and college, is now training for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track and Field, hoping to compete in the London 2012 Olympic Games; and

WHEREAS, as a student at Hampton’s Bethel High School, Francena McCorory set three national records, and during her senior year at Hampton University, she set a national record in the indoor 400-meter race with a time of 50.54 seconds; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Hampton University in 2010, Francena McCorory embarked on a professional athletic career, continuing to train under Hampton University’s head women’s track and field coach, Maurice Pierce; and

WHEREAS, after finishing in fourth place at the International Association of Athletics Federation World Championships in Athletics, held in Daegu, South Korea, Francena McCorory is currently ranked fourth in the world in the 400-meters; she also won a gold medal in South Korea as the anchor of the American women’s 4 x 400-meter relay team; and

WHEREAS, Francena McCorory is a world-class athlete whose personal best in the 400-meter race is 50.24 seconds, which was set in South Korea during qualifying heats for the 2011 World Championships; and

 WHEREAS, a remarkable Virginian in every respect, Francena McCorory is focused on winning a place on the 2012 U.S. Olympic team at the Games of the XXX Olympiad; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Francena McCorory hereby be commended for her outstanding athletic accomplishments and her goal of competing in the London 2012 Olympic Games; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Francena McCorory as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations on her many successes and best wishes in her future athletic career.
