HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 12 Commending Forrest Daniel South.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 27, 2012

 

WHEREAS, Forrest Daniel South of Courtland, a member of Boy Scout Troop 37, will be honored as an Eagle Scout on February 12, 2012, Scouting’s highest rank; and

WHEREAS, for his Eagle Scout project, Forrest Daniel South chose to make improvements at Capron Baptist Church; he built four 8-foot picnic tables and four 8-foot benches, replaced the flagpole, and replaced the swings on the swing set; and

WHEREAS, Scouting has been a part of Forrest’s life since 2003 when he was a Tiger Cub with Cub Scout Pack 37; he received the Arrow of Light in 2008, and then became a member of Boy Scout Troop 37, where he recently was inducted into the Order of the Arrow; and

WHEREAS, along with earning 41 merit badges, Forrest South has served as den chief, patrol leader, quartermaster, and currently he is assistant senior patrol leader of Boy Scout Troop 37; in 2011 he was named the troop’s Scout of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Forrest South combines the best of Scouting with high academic achievement; he is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, a participant in the Odyssey of the Mind competition, and a member of the Southampton High School Key Club; and

WHEREAS, in athletics, Forrest South competes at the district and regional level in cross country, plays soccer, and hopes to be a volunteer baseball coach in the spring for a Mustang baseball team; and

WHEREAS, Forrest South is dedicated to improving his community; he is a junior member of the Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad, and he assists at Capron Baptist Church with Vacation Bible School and belongs to the church youth group; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Forrest Daniel South hereby be commended for the distinguished honor of earning the rank of Eagle Scout; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Forrest Daniel South as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration.
