12100529DWHEREAS, Sabra Ann Bonds Bratton, who served the residents of the City of Roanoke with great devotion as a member of the Department of Social Services and through her involvement with local ministries, died on July 2, 2011; and
WHEREAS, as a young girl, Sabra Bratton attended Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she developed a great faith and desire to be of help to those around her that would mark her life; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from Lucy Addison High School, Sabra Bratton eventually joined the City’s Department of Social Services, embarking on a 38-year career in service to her fellow residents; and
WHEREAS, a woman of unusual strength, determination, and compassion, Sabra Bratton helped countless individuals as they coped with various life challenges, going above and beyond her regular duties to ensure they received the assistance they needed; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her heavy work responsibilities, Sabra Bratton worked diligently with prayer partners, ministers, and evangelists to build worship centers and ministries across the City of Roanoke to aid the less fortunate; and
WHEREAS, a devoted mother, Sabra Bratton took seriously the responsibility of raising her two sons into men of character and compassion, a work in which she excelled; and
WHEREAS, a true public servant, Sabra Bratton modeled the ideals of compassion, generosity, and perseverance, touching the lives of thousands of people over the course of her life; and
WHEREAS, Sabra Bratton will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her sons, Kelvin Curtis “K.C.” and Lloyd Daniel “Duke,” and their families; fiancé, Philippe Claytor; godson, Jacques; and numerous other family members, friends, and admirers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an admired citizen of the Commonwealth, Sabra Ann Bonds Bratton; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sabra Ann Bonds Bratton as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
