HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 68 Commending Care Net Resource Pregnancy Center.

WHEREAS, Care Net Resource Pregnancy Center, opened in Newport News in 1986, celebrates 25 years of providing key services to women in need; and

WHEREAS, Care Net Resource Pregnancy Center, formerly known as the Peninsula Crisis Pregnancy Center, began when a group of concerned citizens met to discuss how to best help women facing certain pregnancy situations; and

WHEREAS, the group decided to form the Center, with the goal of providing accurate information and emotional, spiritual, and practical help to women in a compassionate and nonjudgmental environment; and

WHEREAS, during its first full year of operation in 1987, the Center, located in Newport News, served 165 clients; in 2005 it offered free and confidential services to approximately 500 families while an estimated 150 teens, women, and men benefitted from classes, support groups, and presentations; and

WHEREAS, in 2005 the Center opened a Williamsburg satellite office and changed its name to Care Net Resource Pregnancy Center to reflect its affiliation with Care Net, which functions in an advisory capacity to the Center; and

WHEREAS, Care Net Resource Pregnancy Center has been supported in all its endeavors by generous individuals and local churches, a volunteer board of directors, and trained volunteers who provide peer counseling; and

WHEREAS, for the past 25 years, the staff and volunteers of Care Net Resource Pregnancy Center have offered love, compassion, and hope to clients and look forward to continuing to serve those in need; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Care Net Resource Pregnancy Center on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Care Net Resource Pregnancy Center as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on the Center’s anniversary.
