Celebrating the life of Lenwood Harold Harris.

WHEREAS, Lenwood Harold Harris, a hardworking entrepreneur and dedicated community advocate, touched the lives of countless individuals over the course of his life; and

WHEREAS, a native of Alexandria, Lenwood “Lenny” Harris graduated from T.C. Williams High School and attended Northern Virginia Community College; and

WHEREAS, known for his friendly manner and commitment to his customers, Lenny Harris spent many years as a business owner, first operating a clothing store named Pieces by Lenny and later, U-Can-Trust Pest and Termite Service; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of service to the community, Lenny Harris cofounded the nonprofit organization Operation H.O.P.E. (Helping Oppressed People Emancipate), Inc., which brought together members of the community to tutor and mentor children and young adults; and

WHEREAS, Lenny Harris devoted many hours to working with local youth and encouraged them to excel in all of their endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Lenny Harris annually sponsored a One Love Community Festival that brought together area residents and gave children a chance to enjoy a variety of activities ranging from pony rides to water slides; and

WHEREAS, Lenny Harris selflessly gave of his time and talents to numerous boards affiliated with the City of Alexandria in an effort to enhance the quality of life of his fellow residents; and

WHEREAS, a deeply spiritual man, Lenny Harris lifted his voice in praise alongside fellow members of Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church; and

WHEREAS, a powerful voice for the disenfranchised, Lenny Harris received numerous awards and accolades for his distinguished community service and leaves behind an enduring legacy of service; and

WHEREAS, a man of tremendous heart, Lenny Harris greatly enjoyed the time he spent with family members and friends and leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Deborah; daughter, Myia; and numerous other family members, friends, and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dedicated community advocate, Lenwood Harold Harris; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lenwood Harold Harris as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
