HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 528
Commending Carole Brown.

WHEREAS, Carole Brown, a member of Brosville Community Volunteer Fire & Rescue, is commended for her courageous acts and quick thinking when her department’s firehouse caught fire; and

WHEREAS, on the evening of January 26, 2012, a fire broke out at the Brosville fire station, less than two hours after members of the fire company had left the building; Carole Brown, whose home is two doors away, and Jack Gates III, who also was nearby, each raced to the fire; and

WHEREAS, realizing that she had to act quickly, Carole Brown entered the burning building, climbed into a front-line firefighting vehicle, and drove it safely out of the building, parking it well away from the flames; and

WHEREAS, Carole Brown immediately returned to the site and assisted other people who had arrived, gathering firefighting gear and removing it from the station so it could be used by the firefighters who were attacking the flames; and

WHEREAS, Carole Brown assisted in maneuvering hoses into position to fight the fire and connecting them to fire hydrants; the blaze was under control in minutes with no injuries, but the station sustained approximately $1 million in damages; and

WHEREAS, a middle school teacher who also is taking classes when she is not at work, Carole Brown wanted to give back to her community and joined Brosville Community Volunteer Fire & Rescue in 2010; her determination and heroism that night helped save thousands of dollars worth of equipment; and

WHEREAS, during her two years as a member of Brosville Community Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Carole Brown has answered 336 calls for assistance and has been certified to operate emergency response vehicles; her son also has joined the department; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend a brave and heroic volunteer firefighter, Carole Brown; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Carole Brown as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for her selfless and heroic actions.
