HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 527
Commending the Oakton High School girls’ varsity swim and dive team.

WHEREAS, the 2011 - 2012 Oakton High School girls’ varsity swim and dive team placed first in the 2012 Virginia High School League AAA Swim & Dive State Championship Meet; and

WHEREAS, head coach Parker Ramsdell led the team to great success and a winning score of 183 points; and

WHEREAS, the 2011 - 2012 Oakton High School girls’ varsity swim and dive team proudly carries the torch of hard work, dedication, and a love of their sport; and

WHEREAS, along with head coach Parker Ramsdell, dive coach Cheryl Meltz, assistant swim coach Brent Willess, assistant swim coach Holly Wheeler, the current Oakton girls’ varsity swim and dive team members include Nicole Abdullah, Mary Arscott, Jenna Bayer, Laura Branton, Hana Burkly, Julia Capobianco, Gillian Crews, Shreya Dahal, Maxine Daniels, Brenna DeBellas, Ashley Doran, Michelle Doran, Katherine Douglas, Gabriela Galvez, Stephanie Hallock, Isabel Hansen, Alex Hegerle, Maggie Hollingsworth, Janet Hu, Lauren Johnson, Emily Krisanda, Kendall Lawhorn, Lacy McCleskey, Ashley Nero, Maddie Norton, Jillian Ostick, Allison Pawlowicz, Nicki Powell, Grace Sharer, Melissa Shebat, Sarah Sheridan, Dylan Staniszewski, Ashley Thai, Nicole Votaw, Grace Wagner, Ellen Wilson, Lynn Wormeli, and Kiara Yeatman; and

WHEREAS, sophomore swimmer Janet Hu placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a state and Oakton High School record of 53.20 and placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a state and Oakton High School record of 53.45; and

WHEREAS, freshman swimmer Laura Branton, senior swimmer Stephanie Hallock, sophomore swimmer Kendall Lawhorn, and sophomore swimmer Janet Hu placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:31.89; and

WHEREAS, the performance of the 2011 - 2012 Oakton High School girls’ varsity swim and dive team is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the members; the leadership of head coach Parker Ramsdell; and the support of the Oakton High School Athletic Boosters, student body, and faculty and leadership of Oakton High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the 2011 - 2012 Oakton High School girls’ varsity swim and dive team on its championship-winning season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to head coach Parker Ramsdell as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the outstanding performance of the 2011 - 2012 Oakton High School girls’ varsity swim and dive team.
