Celebrating the life of Charles D. Glaze.

WHEREAS, Charles D. Glaze, an enthusiastic supporter of the Town of Vienna, co-founder of the town’s Halloween parade, and owner of a long-time local business, Vienna Glass Company, died on February 25, 2012; and

WHEREAS, a native of Washington, D.C., Charles “Charlie” D. Glaze fought in World War II as a member of the United States Navy; in 1954 he established Vienna Glass Company on Church Street and began to play a prominent role in the growth and development of the Town of Vienna; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Glaze, who lived in Vienna for more than 50 years, was actively involved in the life of the town; his business helped construct many of the town’s buildings and schools and the Vienna Woods development; and

WHEREAS, in helping to shape the Fairfax County community of Vienna and maintain a small-town feel at the same time, Charlie Glaze was co-founder of the Vienna Halloween Parade; the event began quite modestly 65 years ago, and now attracts thousands of people from throughout the area; and

WHEREAS, in honor of his untold contributions to Vienna’s civic and cultural life, Charlie Glaze was named Grand Marshal of the 2011 Vienna Halloween Parade, which has become one of the town’s most treasured traditions; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Glaze was a strong promoter of James Madison High School in its early years, helping to organize and volunteering with the school’s athletic programs; a man of strong faith, he belonged to Wesley United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Glaze, who was predeceased by a son, Rick, is dearly remembered by Peggy, his wife of 67 years; his children, Ron, Peggy Ann, and Kathi, and their families; and by many other family members, friends, and residents of Vienna; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an esteemed citizen of Vienna, Charles D. Glaze; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles D. Glaze as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
