12105891DWHEREAS, Paul Schratwieser of Fairfax, a proud veteran, respected business leader, and strong community supporter, died on February 21, 2012; and
WHEREAS, a native of New York, Paul Schratwieser graduated from Villanova University before embarking on a distinguished military career in the United States Air Force; and
WHEREAS, an admired officer, Paul Schratwieser proudly served his country during the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, First Lieutenant Paul Schratwieser played an instrumental role in preventing the assassination of President-Elect Eisenhower during his visit to Seoul, South Korea, and was later awarded the Bronze Star and promoted to Captain for his service; and
WHEREAS, Paul Schratwieser spent many years in the corporate world, where the strong leadership skills gained from service in the military proved to be an asset; and
WHEREAS, an outstanding businessman, Paul Schratwieser served as a director for IBM and made many valuable contributions to the company during his tenure; and
WHEREAS, active in community affairs throughout his life, Paul Schratwieser had been a volunteer commissioner for the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department in New York and generously gave of his time and talents to the American Red Cross and several Catholic grammar and high schools; and
WHEREAS, for many years, Paul Schratwieser provided wise counsel and insight to others as a support group leader for the Alzheimer’s Association; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Joanne, Paul Schratwieser will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife of four years, Sandra; children, Mary, Jody, Paula, Greg, Karen, and Elaine, and their families, including 19 grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of the Commonwealth, Paul Schratwieser; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Paul Schratwieser as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
